An essential component of the Glendale Fire Department’s vision of “Helping People” is through community education related to life safety, environmental protection, and property conservation. Our Public Education Office schedules the following activities for youth:
- Fire Station Visits
- Fire Apparatus Demonstrations
- Special Community Event Participation
- Recruitment Fairs
- Fire Extinguishing Demonstrations
Requests to schedule any of the abovementioned activities must be done three weeks in advance.
GUIDELINES FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION REQUESTS

- Please call (818) 548-6404 to schedule.
- Please allow for three weeks' advance notice.
- Fire stations can only accommodate 2-3 requests per month, so please have more than one date available in case your first-choice date is unavailable.
- Only requests for 1st grade and higher will be granted. Sorry, no visits for preschool or kindergarten.
- Educational opportunities for businesses are available upon request.
- Sorry, no requests for personal parties and birthday events.

- Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training (Adult)

- Emergency Preparedness Presentations (Adult)

Available to special groups, businesses, schools, non profit agencies, and service organizations interested in learning about Emergency Preparedness and what to do during a disaster.
- Hoover High School Police and Fire Academy (Grades 10-12)

The Hoover High School Academy is designed to educate and encourage teens who are interested in the police or fire service. Students are able to take part in the program during their 10th thru 12th grade years.
- Junior Fire Program (Grade 5)

For over 50 years, the Glendale Fire Department has proudly been presenting the Jr. Fire Program to all 5th grade students in both public and private schools in Glendale. - Fire Safety Trailer Demonstrations (Grade 3)

The Children’s Burn Foundation Fire Safety Trailer has been traveling around Glendale for the last 10 years educating youth about Fire Safety. This trailer simulates a kitchen and bedroom with a smoke alarm, and teaches kids about kitchen safety and how to evacuate from the second floor once a smoke detector is heard. Children also learn to call 9-1-1 to report their emergency.

STAYING ALIVE - PUBLIC SAFETY PROGRAM

Staying Alive is a non-profit organization that promotes public safety education through classroom and community multimedia presentations; public informational displays at schools, events, shopping malls and community centers; public awareness campaigns; and through information, interactive games and exercises available on its Internet web site.
